Greetings to all, and thank you for your enduring respect for the liberators:

I am the author of "The Wisconsin 3,800," a book about men and women from my state who are buried overseas or MIA from World War II. One part of my book deals with Dennis Venne, a Wisconsin man already on your website. Much of the information about him came from my newspaper stories in the 1980s. If any of you are looking for families of other Wisconsin men -- 208 total are buried at Margraten or are on the MIA wall there – I will try to help. I am the nephew of Joseph R. Burke. Until recent discovory, my family did not know what became of my uncle. When I was young, my grandmother told me that she had recieved notification from the war department that her son had been shot down and she did not know anything more than that. We now know that my uncle was a top gunner in a B24 named Dark Rhapsody. It was involved in a mid air collision with another B24, Shoo Shoo Baby on 23 March 1944. We now know that he is burried in Margraten Plot H Row 9 Grave 18.
Most of my family has passed. All that remains is my mother and myself. I am so relieved to see that my uncle is in such a beautiful resting place. As a veteran myself, I truly apprecciate the care and honor that has been given to those that gave everything.

My Grandpa's brother, William C. Dean, Jr., is listed on the Wall of the Missing at the American War Cemetaries - Ardennes, France. Uncle Bill was with the 715th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber. He was a sergeant. He was shot down on April 19, 1944. He had one brother, my Grandpa, Robert Schumann Dean, and two sisters, Lila Florence Dean and Ella Marie Dean. It saddens me that I didn't find out about Uncle Bill's honor until after they were all gone from us.

It gave me goose bumps to know that there are people out there who have adopted the fallen soldiers who died so far away from home. I pray that Uncle Bill has been adopted and thought of from time to time as well!
